18th Deaflympics champions and winners were honored at the Ugra Olympic college.


Among the hosts of the ceremony were the President of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf Valery Rukhledev, the President of the Russian Committee of Deaf Sports Alexander Romantsov, the Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Sport and Physical culture of the Ministry of Sport Vladimir Malits and the Director of Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Ugra Evgeniy Redkin.

“On behalf of Minister of Sport of Russian Federation Vitaliy Mutko I welcome you on these Games. We keep monitoring the medal standing and today, Russia is ahead of the pack again. The Minister is very grateful to you for these victories” – said the Ministry of Sport representative. – “ Two days later after the opening of the Games, Russian snowboarders and skiers won 10 medals – four golden, two silver and four bronze.”

One of the first to get the medal was the winner of women’s skiathlon, eight-time Deaflympic champion, athlete from Ugra Anna Fedulova. The golden medal to the standing in men’s skiathlon was brought by three-time world champion Vladimir Mayorov.

The previous day, Russian skiers won men’s relay. Among the triumphants were Sergey Ermilov, Aleksey Groshev and Vladimir Mayorov. Groshev was awarded with the sign of Merited Master of Sports.

Four golden medals were brought yesterday by Russian snowboarders. The first woman in the Russian history of sport to get the golden medal in Deaflympics snowboard was Maria Kapustkina.

“ I  do snowboard for five years now. I like it a lot and my mom likes it as well, – said Maria. – I won’t let anyone to outrun me and I dedicate this victory to my boyfriend. My parents – are my living mascots. The conditions here are very comfortable and I hope to come here more often.”

“ We’ve never won the snowboard race and it’s such a pleasure to make it here, in our homeland” – shared Vladimir Malits.

Звание Заслуженный мастер спорта получила бронзовый призер женского скиталона Раиса Головина . На сложнейшей трассе слоуп-стайла в команду принесла победу дебютантка Сурдлимпийских зимних игр Светлана Анисимова, в параллельном гигантском слаломе медаль завоевали одна из самых юных спортсменок 16-летняя Анна Сурмилина и петербуржец-факелоносец Роман Хамицевич.

The title of Merited master of Sports took the bronze winner of women’s skiathlon Raisa Golovina. The hardest slopestyle race won the debutant of Deaflympic Games Svetlana Anisimova. One of the youngest sportsmen 16 years old Anna Surmilina and torch-bearer RomanKhamitsevich  made it to the top in Parallel Giant Slalom.
