The final lineup of the national team of Russia that will participate in the Winter Deaflympics in Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk was approved. The list includes 76 athletes that will compete in 5 sport disciplines.
The team members are representing 16 regions of Russia. The biggest number of athletes are from Moscow (15 people), Bashkortostan (11 people), Novosibirsk region and Komi republic (8 people each), Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous region – Ugra (6 people), Saint-Petersburg, Tver region, Chelyabinsk region (5 people each) and Udmurtia (4 people).
On the Deaflympics Ugra is represented by the following athletes: Maria Podorovskaya (snowboard), Alexey Groshev, Sergey Yermilov, Stepan Kuznetsov, Tatiana Gorbunova, Anna Fedulova (cross-country skiing).
The youngest athlete participating in the Games will be alpine skier Alexander Yakovlev from Saint-Petersburg, who has recently turned 16. The oldest athlete will be 52 y.o. curling team member Elena Shagieva from Moscow, says Sportbox.ru.
It is to be reminded that the XVIII Winter Deaflympics will take place from March’28 till April’05 in Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk. The farewell ceremony in honor of the Deaflympic team of Russia will take place on March’24 on Poklonnaya Gora, Moscow. Later, on the same day the team will take a flight to the capital of Ugra.
According to the rules and regulations of the Deaflympics, the last day for accepting application forms from athletes that wish to take part in the Games was February’28. It is planned that 26 countries will send their athletes to participate in the Deaflympics. In addition to the national team of Russia, the capital of Ugra is looking forward to see the teams of Armenia, Austria, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mongolia, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, USA and Pakistan.
