From 26 till 31 October Sochi is hosting the European Deaf Curling Championships. Russia is represented there with both men and women teams.
Together with the Russian team athletes from Germany, Croatia, Slovenia and Ukraine are struggling for the main prize of the competitions in the Curling Centre “Ledoviy Kub”.
At the end of the first day of the competitions men team of Russia has got 3 points after their victory over the team of Ukraine. Russia shared the leading position with the team of Germany that has won a game against Croatia. In women competitions the situation is quiet the opposite: Croatia and Ukraine have 3 points after winning German and Slovakian teams. Russianteamwasnotplayingyet.
Deaf curling in Russia has been cultivating since 2009. The first Deaf Curling World Championships took place in 2013, in which women team of Russia won gold and Russian men team got silver.
The Championships in Sochi became the decisive part of preparing national teams for the forthcoming XXVIII Winter Deaflympics, that will take place next year from March’28 till April’5 in Khanty-Mansiysk. Teams from 30 countries will compete for 33 sets of medals in 5 sports: cross-country skiing, snowboarding, alpine skiing, curling and ice hockey.
