Sportbox.ru is finishing the series of articles about the sport venues of The XVIII Winter Deaflympics writing about the center “Metallurg-Magnitogorsk” that will be hosting competitions in alpine skiing disciplines in the end of March and the beginning of April.

«Metallurg-Magnitogorsk» — ia a rather young alpine skiing complex placed in Abzelilovskiy region of Bashkortostan near lake Bannoye (Yakty-Kul), 40 km away from Magnotogorsk. This is an ecologically clear area with mild climate, picturesque mountains and astonishingly beautiful forests. Its slopes are turned east. 7 trails are made for people with different skiing experience. The total length of all trails is around 2500 meters; the vertical drop is 450 meters. Some of them are lighted and suitable for night-time skiing.
The alpine skiing center is equipped with the first in Russia 1700m long speed elevator. It is able to transfer 2800 people per hour. The distance is covered in 6 minutes. For the beginners there’s a 300m trail with a drag lift.
Due to the system of artificial snowing produced in Italy the alpine skiing season here lasts from November to May.
The guests of the center can use any equipment for alpine-skiing, luggage lockers, a ski repair point, a first-aid post, a shop, restaurants and cafes. They can also use a tubing trail and play paintball.
Many times the alpine skiing center «Metallurg-Magnitogorsk» was hosting different regional and national competitions is snowboarding, alpine skiing, ski-alpinism and mountain-biking.
The process of getting ready
10 alpine skiing medal events of the Deaflympics will be held in Magnitogorsk: downhill, giant slalom, super giant and super combined for men and women. The slalom competitions will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk.
— By now we are 80% ready for the competitions, — says a representative of The alpine skiing center Maxim Yasko. — Everything is done in accordance with the time-schedule, all the works that we planned to be done already, are completed. We only need to do some things that are to be done right before the start of competitions, like installation of fencing, safety nets, a scene and screens for spectators. The snow making process will be finished on March’01. In the nearest future we will have a meeting with the inspection group that will check the venue and give us its recommendations.
It is also worth noting, that all the participants of the competitions will attend the Official Opening and Closing Ceremonies that will be held in the capital of Ugra. They will be transferred to South Ural region and back by charter flights on March’29 and April’03.
