On March’29 the climate of Khanty-Mansiysk relented and athletes and their fans were enjoying sunny and calm weather.

On the first day of cross-country skiing competitions Russian athletes were able to win their first medals in 20 km men’s skiathlon, 2 of them are gold! In men’s race there was not any clear leader, everybody was doing its best to get to the podium but before the finish zone 3 favorites were defined.  They were Vladimir Mayorov of Russia, Andriy Andriyishyn of Ukraine and his compatriot Pavlo Mandzuik. One more Russian athlete Roman Chirkov was coming fourth. However he has broken his poles in the finish zone so he wasn’t able to compete for the medals in the race.  Roman Chirkov has congratulated Vladimir Mayorov on his victory and assured that he will do his best to compete for medals in future races.

This was not the only victory of Russian team today. Cross-country skiers Anna Fedulova, Lyubov Misharina and Raisa Golovina have won all 3 medals in 10 km women’s skiathlon. In her interview Anna Fedulova said that she wasn’t skiing during the last 2 year as she was on maternity leave and now she is very happy to be the first at finish.
