Deaflympic cross-country skiing competitions have finished in Khanty-Mansiysk today. The last race – 15 km men’s classic mass-start – was won by Vladimir Mayorov from Russia.
24 athletes from Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Japan, China, Mongolia, Czech Republic, Turkey, South Korea, Switzerland and Estonia were participating in the race. Russia and Ukraine were the favorites of mass-start. Athletes of these two countries were competing for the medals.
After 5 km of the race the leading group consisted of 8 athletes from Russia and Ukraine.
After 10 km this group was shortened to 4 athletes: Sergey Yermilov, Vladimir Mayorov and Roman Chirkov from Russia and Andriy Andriyishyn from Ukraine.
On the final lap of the race Roman Chirkov was left behind the leaders. Later on the same thing happened with Sergey Yermilov. Vladimir Mayorov from Russia and Andriy Andriyishyn from Ukraine were competing for the gold, still Mayorov was the first to cross the finish line. Andriy Andriyishyn finished 4,8 sec back. Sergey Yermilov from Russia won bronze finishing 33,8 sec back the leader.
It is worth noting that Russian cross-country skiers were the main golden-winners of these Deaflympics. They won 8 gold medals out of 9 medals of Russian national team. As for Vladimir Mayorov, he has 4 gold medals of these Deaflympics. On March’29 he won 20 km skiathlon, on March’30 was the winner of relay 3х10 km and on April’02 finished first in team’s sprint.
