John Nelson: «A trip to Khanty-Mansiysk is a nice cultural experience!»

Today, on March’28 the XVIII Winter Deaflympics will be opened in Khanty-Mansiysk.

Alpine skiing competitions will take place both in the capital of Ugra and Magnitogorsk. Slalom competitions will be held on the alpine skiing complex “Khvoyny Urman”. We have asked a coach and an athlete of USA team John Nelson about the readiness of the complex in Khanty-Mansiysk to host the Deaflympic competitions.

«I see that a big work was done on “Khvoyny Urman” – everything looks good, – said John Nelson. – The stadium is quite compact, there’s plenty of snow. So I think the competitions will pass successfully. Of cause, we want to win medals here. Whoarethefavorites? Definitely, this is me (laughs). We have more talented athletes in our team; they can show a very good performance».

John Nelson has also shared his impressions about Khanty-Mansiysk. «Oh, this is a very interesting place! I’ve never been to Russia before. People here are very nice. Yesterday we visited a cathedral here – it’s a very beautiful place. Of cause, Khanty-Mansiysk differs a lot from American cities. It’s a good cultural experience for us!».
