On March’24 people of Ugra have greeted the national sport delegation of Russia that came from Moscow with a charter flight.
Athletes representing 5 sport disciplines were met by volunteers and girls wearing traditional khanty clothes and keeping authentic Siberian treat – pine nuts.
“It’s a late evening now in Ugra, we didn’t expect such a hearty welcome, – said one of the youngest athletes of the Russian team, a snowboarder Nikita Komissarov. – I’ve already been to Khanty-Mansiysk once, and now I feel like I am back home”.
Andrey Vasilevskiy, the chief coach of Russian deaf hockey team said: “Our guys were training very hard for the Games. All athletes came to Khanty-Mansiysk in a very good mood; in the nearest future they will continue training. Our competitor in the first game will be known in March’28 during the drawing procedure”.
Russian delegation is the biggest one on these Games. It includes 150 people, half of them are athletes.
“The team is a little bit tired. Yesterday we participated in the farewell ceremony on Poklonnaya Gora, Moscow. We wish luck to all our athletes. We also thank everybody involved in organizing these competitions. A very good job was done by the governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova and her team, – said Alexander Romantsov, the President of Russian Committee of Deaf Sports. – I thank the organizers for such warm greetings. It’s good to see that we were met with songs and dances. The atmosphere in the airport is amazing!”
It is to be reminded that 344 athletes from 27 countries will participate in the Deaflympics. Khanty-Mansiysk has already met delegates from 13 countries: Croatia, Norway, Slovakia, USA, Ukraine, Finland, Italy, Poland, Armenia, Slovenia, Korea, Japan and Russia. Today athletes from Czech Republic, Turkey and Canada will also arrive to the capital of Ugra.
During 9 days of the Deaflympics medal events will be held in 5 sport disciplines.
