Monument “From back land to battlefield”

The monument represents the first part of a memorial complex triptych. Its other two parts are “Mother Motherland” in Volgograd and “Liberating Soldier” in Berlin. A 15 meter high moment is located on an artificial hill. It was constructed in a memory of Magnitogorsk citizens who were working in back land during WWII: half of all armored tanks and one third of all service projectiles were made of metal of Magnitogorsk. The monument is complemented with 2 plates with engraved names of people of Magnitogorsk who got titles of Hero of the Soviet Union during World War II.

The first camp

The monument is located near the entrance to the Park of Veterans of Magnitogorsk. It symbolizes a camp where the first construction workers of Magnitogorsk were living. The authors of the monument were a merited artist of the Russian SFSR Lev Golovnitskiy and an architect Evgeniy Alexandrov. Before the monument the poem of the first construction worker of Magnitogorsk and a poet Boris Ruchyov is carved in stone.

The Steam Locomotion

The Steam Locomotion is a monument dedicated to the first steam train. Its full name is Eu684-58. The monument is located on the train station square. On the left side of the locomotion is a memorial plate with text “On June’30’1929 this train was one of the first trains that have arrived to Magnitogorsk train station”. The author of the monument is an architect from Magnitogorsk Vadim Ponomaryov.

The Cathedral of Saint Ascension

The Cathedral of Saint Ascension is the biggest is South Urals. In the centre of a new big church complex is a church of Ascension with 7 domes, enlargements and a bell tower. The design of the Cathedral is based on the cross-domed churches of Ancient Russia of XIV-XV centuries. It was created by an architect from Magnitogorsk Anatoliy Volobuev, the interior and exterior design was made a member of the Union of Russian Artists Sergey Solomatin, the altar screen was painted by icon-painters of Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. The height of the cathedral is 52 meters, its width is 25 meters. It contains 108 icons.

Arena-Metallurg

The ice palace and the home arena of ice hockey club “Metallurg”. Its capacity is 7700 people.
The construction was made in accordance with all technical standards of modern sport infrastructure. The sport complex is equipped with portable spectator stands, which allows modifying the area quickly for adjusting it to different competitions, exhibitions, concerts and other mass events. Arena has a restaurant with a view on the hockey pitch and VIP lounges. There are also special seats for disabled people.

Alexander Pushkin Drama Theater

The history of the theater starts in 1930. Recently it is working in creative cooperation with many regional theatres of Russia and international actors. For example, a French actress Anne Selier was working in the theater for 3 seasons. It was Magnitogorsk theatre that presented the one-woman performance of French theater and movie star Annie Girardot for the first time in Russia.

The Magnitogorsk Museum of Local Lore

The Magnitogorsk Museum of Local Lore was established in 1944. The special interest in the museum display is given to a unique collection of samovars made in Russia by method of crafts casting of copper, an archive of a famous poet Boris Ruchyov and a collection of ancient archeological sepulchers of Malo-Kizilsky ancient settlement and Aganovo-II. A permanent exhibition also includes a collection “The history of Magnitogorsk – the history of the country”, which is devoted to the period called “the period of building socialism in the USSR”.

A cultural place that was established in order to gather and popularize national and cultural traditions, ethnos, arts and crafts of nations living in the city and its suburbs. More that 300 cultural events for citizens and guests of Magnitogorsk are conducted by the creative team of the House of National Cohesion. Among them such open-air festivals as Sabantuy, Maslenitsa, Christmas, Navruz and national holidays like Rosh Hashana, Eid al-Fitr, Hanuka, etc. Also there are contests, workshops and exhibitions.
The House of National Cohesion has a big concert program; it performs an important educational and regional work, conducts different contests and events for youngsters.
