Today, on January’27 the Commission on control of the XVIII Winter Deaflympics of the Ministry of Sport of Russia has visited Khanty-Mansiysk with inspection.
The Commission delegates have seen all sport venues of the Deaflympics and checked if they are ready to host the Games.
The visiting working group that came to Ugra included the director of the Federal State Autonomous Institution «The management of sport events» Sergey Nazarov, the president of the Russian Committee of Deaf Sport Alexander Romantsov, the executive director of the International Committee of Sport for the Deaf Dmitry Rebrov as well as executives in charge of every Deaflympic discipline.
The members of the Commission have started their work in the very “heart” of sport life in Khanty-Mansiysk – Alexander Filipenko Winter Sport Centre. Then the delegation went to the Alpine-skiing Complex “Khvoyny Urman” and the Culture and Entertainment Complex “Arena Ugra”. A long working day has finished in the Ice Palace where the Commission members had a concluding meeting with Organizing Committee of Deaflympics 2015.
It is to be reminded that sport venues of Khanty-Mansiysk were first checked in 2014 right after the agreement for conducting Deaflympics in Ugra capital was signed. In February 2014 a technical delegation of the International Committee of Sport for the Deaf has inspected all sport venues of the Games.
«Everybody was satisfied with the results then, – said the president of the Russian Committee of Deaf Sport Alexander Romantsov. – Infrastructure and professionalism of personnel are very good on these venues. It is also important that all sites are within walking distance from each other and from hotels for the participants. We are absolutely sure that Deaflympics in Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk will be held on the highest possible level. Khanty-Mansiysk has a big experience in hosting big international sport events and has already proved that it knows how to deal with difficult tasks. The aim of this visit is just to check if sport venues are meeting technical standards and how ready they are for the Games», – explained Alexander Nikolaevich.
«As for the technical conditions of sport venues, they are very good but for some minor details. It is only needed to add some equipment that is not used during regular sport events in Khanty-Mansiysk. For example, the Alpine-skiing complex. It is not absolutely ready yet, for instance, slopestyle, halfpipe and snowboard cross tracks are not finished yet. However, the organizing committee has a distinct vision of its tasks and knows how to solve them. We have no unsolvable problems today! I can’t imagine any unmanageable situation that could happen during the Games», – said Sergey Nazarov.
By the way, it is planned that tracks for slopestyle and snowboard cross will be ready in the beginning of March. «Athletes of the national team of Russia will be the first to use these tracks during their training session, – noted Nikolay Vtorushin, the executive manager of Alexander Filipenko Winter Sport Centre and the Alpine-skiing Complex “Khvoyny Urman”. – The most difficult construction is tube for halfpipe. Its constructing is done by guest specialists and is going to be finished in the middle of March. As for parallel slalom, everything is ready for it», – he concluded.
It is not only snowboard events that the capital of Ugra is hosting for the first time, but curling as well. The curling tournament will take place in the Ice Palace.
«Today the condition of this venue is very good. There are some minor details, of cause, but we will solve them, – said the official in charge of curling Vitaly Zezin. – It was planned that before the Deaflympics Khanty-Mansiysk would host The Curling Cup of Russia as the test competitions, but as the process of making ice takes a lot of time and resources, it was decided not to conduct it».
It is worth noting that the certificate on the readiness of sport venues of the Deaflympics will be signed one week before the start of the Games while the process of getting ready for them will be finished one month before their start.
It is to be reminded, that the XVIII Winter Deaflympics will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk from March’28 till April’05. Around 450 athletes from 27 countries will compete in 5 disciplines – snowboard, ice hockey, cross-country skiing, curling and alpine skiing.
