Snowboarders from USA are the best in slopestyle

Today, on March’29 the slopestyle competitions of the XVIII Winter Deaflympics were held in the alpine skiing complex “Khvoyny Urman” in Khanty-Mansiysk. The winners of both men’s and women’s competitions are snowboarders from USA – Lauren Weibert and Blair Esson.

The total number of participants is 7 women and 14 men.

The leaders of the competitions were already defined after the qualifications. Weibert was on the second place while Petrine Olgeirsdottir from Norway was the leader.As for Blair Esson, in qualifications he has shown the best result and was the only athlete of the men’s competitions who received more that 90 points out of 100.

In the finals every athlete had three attempts. The best attempts of athlete are used for defining the winner.

In all three attempts Weibert was better than her competitors. She received 76 points for her best attempt. Olgeirsdottir fell in her first try, the second one was also not very impressive, but the third attempt was a success and an athlete from Norway got 72,3 points. The bronze winner is Svetlana Anisimova from Russia with 71,3 points.

In men’s finals the leader again was Blair Esson. He got 83 points for his 1st attempt, 90,7 points for the 2nd attempt and unbelievable 94,7 points for the 3rd attempt. The competitors were only fighting for silver and bronze. The silver medal goes to Jonas Jenzer from Switzerland with 84 points. A brother of the gold medalist Sean Esson wins bronze with 82 points. The best Russian athlete – Stanislav Sokolov – is fourth with 77,3 points.

Tomorrow, on March’30 the medal event will be held in parallel giant slalom.
