The first medal event was held in Magnitogorsk

Today downhill competitions were held in the alpine skiing center “Metallurg-Magnitogorsk”.

33 athletes – 26 men and 7 women – were participating in the competitions. Philipp Steiner from Switzerland got gold in men’s competitions, Giacomo Pierbon from Italy finished second and Philipp Eisenmann became a bronze medalist. RuslanShaikhutdinovfromRussiafinished 6th.

In women’s downhill Tereza Kmochova from Czech Republic became a Deaflympic champion. Her compatriot Veronika Grygarova got silver. Anja Drev from Slovenia was on the third place. Marina Zvereva from Russia finished 6th.

Tereza Kmochova (CZE) is the leader in women’s downhill and her result today has proved this once again: «I am very happy and my impressions are so good. I liked the trail very much; it is well-organized. I would like to thank everybody who are involved in preparing it and are now working in this place».

Philipp Steiner (SUI): «I am among the leaders in this discipline so I was sure I will win gold or silver. OfcauseIwasdreamingofgold. Giacomo from Italy is my permanent competitor. When I got to know his result I was very happy that I was able to be faster than he and to become the champion of the Deaflympics».
