The delegates of the Congress of the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf have summarized its results today, on March’28.
According to the President of ICSD Valery Rukhledev, the main topic of the event was the perspective of the developments of deaf sports. The President said: «We all worked well here. Everybody is concerned about the future of deaf sport. We have discussed a lot of issues such as establishing dynamic communication with Paralympic Committee».
Besides, the head of ICSD emphasized that «now we are preparing a draft of the memorandum of understanding between the International Olympic Committee and the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf».
In his turn, the President of the Russian Committee of Deaf Sports Alexander Romantsov said: «Deaf sports shall have their official status like Olympic and Paralympic sports».
He also added that now a new sport – curling – was included in the program of the Deaflympics for the first time. Probably, such changes will be in Summer Deaflympics as well; it is planned to add golf in their program.
According to Alexander Romantsov, the sport venues of Khanty-Mansiysk are 100% ready for the Games: «I am glad to say that Khanty-Mansiysk has done its best to get ready for the Deaflympics. This was done in a very short time».
It is worth noting that today Khanty-Mansiysk is hosting the official Opening Ceremony of the XVIII Winter Deaflympics and the Deaflympic torch relay.
