One of the most complicated constructions for the Deaflympics – a halfpipe – has started to be built in Khanty-Mansiysk.
The ramp for snowboarding is being done by invited experts. One of them – the chief coach of the national halfpipe team of Russia Anton Blagovidov. In his opinion, the building of a halfpipe will take up to 3 weeks.
«There’re no special secrets for halfpipe building – first the snow is made, then we ram it down and make it even with a help of special snow grooming machines. The most important thing in building a halfpipe is to make it smooth and even and to get the right radius», – says Anton Blagovidov.
The expert has also added that plus degrees of air temperature that are keeping in Khanty-Mansiysk these days will not make the construction less safe.
«The optimal condition is minus degrees at night. Of cause, a halfpipe needs a special care, new technologies are used for keeping stable temperature. With a big amount of snow a halfpipe can stay for 3 or 4 months of constant usage», – says the expert.
It is planned that a halfpipe will be used after the Deaflympics too. One of the targets of the chief coach of the national halfpipe team of Russia is to have a training session of his team in Khanty-Mansiysk in April to make the sport community understand that Khanty-Mansiysk is not only a place for hosting big sport events but a perfect venue for training.
«I’d also like to see this halfpipe used by sport schools for kids and youth to make not only parallel disciplines popular here, but freestyle disciplines as well. Freestyle sports are getting more popularity every year», – added Anton Blagovidov.
It is planned that a halfpipe will be ready in the middle of March. The first athletes who will use it will be the members of the national Deaflympic team who will have their control training here.
