The Secretary-General of UN Ban Ki-moon has address the participants of the XVIII Winter Deaflympics in Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk. He also congratulated the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf and the Russia Committee of Deaf Sports on conducting such and important international sport event.
“The Deaflympics are a vital element in the Olympic Movement’s Sport for All initiative. Sport is fundamental for the growth and development of all regardless of age, ability, origin, race, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Sport fosters inclusion and unites people from all walks of life. It helps to eliminate prevailing stereotypes and remove stigma in our societies. I encourage all sporting organizations to follow the outstanding example of the Deaflympics in advancing an inclusive society with equal rights for all”, – said the UN Secretary-General.

It is to be reminded that the XVIII Winter Deaflympics will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk from March’28 till April’05 2015. Athletes from 27 countries will participate in 31 medal events.
