On March’17 the third meeting of the Organizing Committee of the XVIII Winter Deaflympics took place in Khanty-Mansiysk. The Deputy Minister of Sport of Russian Federation Yury Nagornykh was the chairman of the meeting.
The main issue of the agenda was the readiness of sport and city infrastructure to host the Deaflympics.
In was marked during the meeting that the technical delegates of the International Committee of the Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) came to a conclusion that sport venues meet the standards for conducting international competitions for hard-of-hearing athletes. Besides, the adaptation of the venues to the rules and regulations of the Games and recommendations of chief referees in each discipline was finished on March’1.
At the moment the sport venues of Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk are absolutely ready to host the Games. The equipping of the stadiums and arenas with inspection devices is in its final stage. Besides, special fire safety equipment for hard-of-hearing people (personal vibrating bracelets) was placed in the hotels of the city. The works will be finished until March’23.
It is to be reminded that the Deaflympics will start in Khanty-Mansiysk on March’28. The Opening Ceremony will be held in the Tennis Centre at 20:15. During the ceremony the Deaflympic cauldron will be lighted on the central square of Khanty-Mansiysk.
During the Games 31 medal event will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk and Magnitogorsk. The official ceremonies of awarding prize-winners will take place every evening on the central square of the capital of Ugra. The Closing Ceremony of the Deaflympics will be held on April’05. This will also be the day of finals in ice-hockey, curling, alpine skiing and snowboarding.
